Behind Improving Line, Penncrest Notches First Win
Coach Rick Stroup describes his effort putting it on the line.

Rick Stroup knew the day would come when his football team would finally win a game. The first-year coach has been watching patiently as his young team has grown and matured this season. Perhaps no unit has progressed more so than the offensive front, which features one senior, two juniors and two sophomores.
The Lions beat Harriton in their last home game of the season, 27-14, behind senior tackle Andrew Butkus, junior center Dan Cosgrove and junior right guard AJ Lombardosi, and sophomores Shane Finnegan, a right tackle, and sophomore left guard Bob Long.
“We were looking to get that one win, and this was our last home game and tried to get the kids excited and play well,” Stroup said. “We are getting better and we’re excited about that. The seniors are still a little disappointed, because they want to win, and we have been getting better because they’ve kept up the hard work. We have about 40 healthy bodies, and we’re down to nine offensive linemen.

“Our starting right tackle got hurt early this season, then our right guard and left tackle both went down. We replaced them with the best kids we have and those are kids we felt could play. They’re learning and the young kids are excited that we’re doing things, some really good things.”
