Blotter: Home Surveillance Camera Captures Attempted Burglary

Here is a list of recent incidents in Middletown and Edgmont townships reported by the . Anyone with information regarding any of these incidents is asked to call police at 484-840-1000. If arrests or charges are mentioned, they do not indicate guilt or a conviction.
DUI—Route 352 at Granite Run Mall at about 3:05 a.m. on July 26. A Media man was operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and a controlled substance.
Retail Theft—Boscov's at Granite Run Mall on July 25. A 40-year-old woman, 17-year-old woman and a 14-year-old woman, each from Philadelphia, were observed concealing items and left the store without paying, according to State Police. The women were processed and released.

Burglary—Fox Road between July 22 and 24. Unknown persons gained entry inside the residence through an unlocked door and removed several firearms, three cameras, one video camera, a laptop, checkbook and unknown amount of cash, according to State Police.
Retail Theft— at at about 12:26 p.m. on July 21. A 20-year-old Chester man was caught by Boscov's Loss Prevention putting items into his backpack and attempting to leave the store without paying, according to State Police.

Burglary—S. Old Middletown Road between 11:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. on July 21. Unknown persons forced entry into the residence and took various electronics, according to State Police.
Burglary—400 block of S. Old Middletown Road between 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on July 19. Unknown persons entered the residence through an open window on the bottom level and removed three computers and a PS3, valued at $4,350, according to State Police.
Retail Theft— at Granite Run Mall at about 9:22 p.m. on July 19. Phillip James Dougherty, 24, of West Chester, was arrested on charges of retail theft, according to State Police. On July 19, Dougherty allegedly entered the store and removed and concealed two Eagles jerseys, according to State Police. Kohl's surveillance captured Dougherty grabbing the jerseys and entering a changing room, according to State Police, and the items were concealed in his shorts when he exited. On July 20, Dougherty returned to the store with a female and male accomplice, and the stolen merchandise, in order to return the items to get store credit, according to State Police. Then they would allegedly pawn the store credit cards for a fraction of the price, according to State Police. Dougherty gave consent to search his vehicle which revealed a large amount of drug paraphernalia, a cell phone pack containing suboxin, which was not prescribed to him and two confirmed stolen Wawa stamps marked "paid," according to State Police. Charges were filed with District Court 32-2-48.
Attempted Burglary—Rosewood Lane at about 11:43 p.m. on July 18. Two younger-looking, white men arrived at the residence, walked to the rear and opened an unlocked sliding patio door, according to State Police. Once the door opened, the home's alarm system sounded and the men fled, according to State Police. The homeowner installed video surveillance of the house and captured most of this act on camera, according to State Police. The investigation is ongoing.
Controlled Substance— at about 9:30 a.m. on July 18. A 16-year-old Darby man was arrested for drug possession, according to State Police.
Theft—1200 block of Brighton Way in Edgmont Township at about 9:30 p.m. on July 17. A teen had a pool party and invited friends and a group of friends she had invited brought people whom she didn't know and believed that someone from that group stole two cell phones from other party-goers, according to State Police.
Theft—1400 block of W. Baltimore Pike between July 5 and 10. Unknown persons stole equipment belonging to the victim, according to State Police.
Theft from Construction Site—Valley Road between June 18 and July 18. The victim discovered the theft of copper pipping in the basement of a newly built home, according to State Police. The homes have been under construction since early June.
Theft— at Granite Run Mall between May 2 and July 18. A 22-old-year Lansdowne woman, who was a Sears employee, was seen taking cash from the register on several occasions, according to State Police. Sears Loss Prevention investigated the woman for several months. The woman provided a written statement admitting to taking about $600 over a period of time, according to State Police. Charges are pending.
