Borders Bookstore has announced it has filed for bankruptcy and will close about 200 stores, according to published reports. The King of Prussia Mall store will close along with the other stores likely by the end of April. According to the Borders’ Web site, the company will restructure and reposition itself for “long-term success.”
“We determined that the best path for Borders to have the ability to achieve this reorganization is through the Chapter 11 process, which we commenced Feb. 16,” a statement on the store’s Web site said.
According to list of stores closing posted on the Web site, the nearby Springfield Square Shopping Center Borders and the Borders Express at the Springfield Mall are NOT closing. The Glen Mills Borders on Baltimore Pike is also NOT closing. However, the Web site also states that the list of closing stores is not final.
