Borough Council Approves Sale of 1 W. State St.

approved the sale of 1 W. State Street to the highest bidder last week, according to Borough Manager Jeff Smith. 

Claudio Sandolo, owner of Spasso Italian Grille in Philadelphia, won the bid with an offer of $670,000 over

Sandolo plans to use the property as a restaurant.

Heritage Design, the firm leading the architecture design for Blue Stone Developers, planned to use the building as a multipurpose facility that would house retail and office space and a restaurant.

Borough council voted 4-3 in favor of Sandolo’s bid, with Council President Pete Alyanakian, Vice President Monika Rehoric and Council members Jim Cunningham and Dawn Roe voting in favor, according to the Delaware County Daily Times. Council members Monica Simpson, Eric Stein and Peter Williamson voted against Sandolo's bid. 

The sale is also conditioned upon that there is façade preservation and a conservation easement in order to keep the historical aspects of the building, according to the agreement of sale. 

The council had and held a special meeting on July 7 where the sale was approved. Simpson had made a motion at the June meeting to finalize the agreement with Heritage Design Collaborative, but the motion was not seconded.

The 1 W. State Street building has sat vacant since the former restaurant, Brodeur’s, vacated in November 2009. Before that, the New Orlean’s Café restaurant housed the property.
