Local Rockers Return for Media Theatre's Garage Band Festival
Like local bands and their funky, rockin' sounds? Then come to Media Theatre's 2nd Garage Band Fest and feel the groove.

The homegrown sounds of pure rock and roll, a bit of rhythm and blues, and 1970s hits will begin heating up the summer on Thursday, Aug. 11 when The Media Theatre’s second annual Garage Band Festival begins. It plays three weekends through Aug. 27.
The first weekend features Old Man Cactus, a band based in Havertown, who open the event on Thursday, Aug. 11. The group brings an eclectic blend of influences from a wide range of popular music to craft great arrangements and soulful performances. On Friday, Aug. 12 brings one of Delaware County’s most popular bar bands, The Broozers, to the stage. The Broozers focus on upbeat reggae and danceable jams. On Saturday, Aug. 13 has The Real Feel with their combination of rock, funk, and soul sounds.

Next up, on Thursday, Aug. 18, the rock and pop fusion band Keystoned (love that name!) will get audiences moving and shaking. Media’s own R3 Band continue the festival on Friday, Aug. 19, and the second weekend closes with Michael “Motown” Carter’s Eternity who have a special opening act: Delco Idol Junior contestant Alex Buonopane and the Little Rock Band. (Michael "Motown" Carter has been in Media for many years and this is his band's first appearance on The Media Theatre stage---and they have a new name as well! Little Alex Buonopane has been bringing houses down at Delco Idol Junior with his mature soulful voice.)
The final weekend promises more fun when 1970s cover band The Decrepits (another great band name!) play Thursday, Aug. 25. Made up of four men past age 50 and one lead vocalist (Amy Aeschliman) who is 24, The Decrepits make their Delaware County debut with this appearance. They are followed on Friday, Aug. 26 by The Groove Daemons, who play a mellowed out blend of rock and soul. The event comes to its 2011 conclusion with Mooch’s Basement, a band with many loyal fans in the region.
