On Sunday August 7, Riddlewood Swim Club held their inaugural 5K run and walk event. The idea for the contest came early in the spring from RSC Board Member Andrew Poole, who is an avid runner and cyclist himself. Andy who is very familiar with these types of events, worked with the race management team from Run The Day, and organized a challenging course through the neighborhood of Riddlewood. Board members from RSC helped promote and staff the event as a fundraiser for the swim club. The pool partnered with longtime community supporter Russ Carlson and Beneserv Corporation who provided shirts for all registrants.
The field of contestants consisted of 25 runners and 15 walkers. And if there was a more humid day of the summer for a race, I defy someone to point it out! By race time at high noon, the temperature was 85 degrees with close to 95 percent humidity.

As the contestants lined up, Tiffany Ieradi-Quinn

The race went off without a hitch, and the runners had more than a few cheering sections rooting them on. Twenty-one minutes and nine seconds later, the overall winner Taylor Orcutt crossed the finish line followed by Nick Angelina and Grace Mancini. The overall results can be found on the Run The Day Results page.

After the race, the participants were invited to Riddlewood Swim Club for a day of swimming, music by DJ Shane Ousey, food, and fun! And what a day it was with the pool packed with runners and members alike. Overall our Inaugural 5K was a huge success and we look forward to another one next year! Thanks to Andy and all our volunteers and participants!
