The Media Theatre....Delco's Professional Music Theatre!

The Media Theatre is Delaware County's ONLY Professional Music Theatre....here's why!

The Media borough is the heart and soul of Delaware County.  It's a cultural cornerstone of the entire region due to The Media Theatre. As a resident of Media borough, and The Director of PR for the theatre, I would like to take this time to re-introduce readers to The Media Theatre.

The Media Theatre is Delaware County's only professional music theatre.

---Many people ask 'what does that mean?' Here's an answer for those of you who are unsure: The Media Theatre is Delaware County's only professional theatre that produces music theatre year round with a Broadway Series, Youth Series, and Music Theatre Camp. Even The Theatre School is based on Music Theatre.

No other professional theatre in the Philadelphia theatre community produces music theatre consistently, or has it as their mission base. And it's right here on State Street in Media, attracting over 50,000 patrons per year who enjoy show titles such as "My Fair Lady", "Rent", and the recent holiday smash "Annie" in which Wanda Sykes portrayed, in a brilliant performance, Miss Hannigan.

Currently, The Media Theatre has a critically acclaimed production of "The Who's Tommy" happening until May 22. As a special incentive to Delaware County residents to see the production the ticket price for all seats has been reduced to $25! That's good for any show, any time, now through May 22. The Delco News Network, which includes the Town Talk and Press Newspapers, reviewed the production referring to it as 'Spirited'.

---Next, you may wonder 'what does the term 'professional' mean and why does The Media Theatre use it in its slogan?'

Answer: Because The Media Theatre is not a community theatre, nor are any of its staff, actors, directors, or designers volunteers who simply gather together to put on a show as a hobby. Each staff member, actor, musician, director, and designer is paid weekly for their creative efforts, input, and talent.

As a member of the Actors Equity Association (the Union of Professional Actors and Stage Managers based in NYC) The Media Theatre is able to have, on its stage, performers who gain their livelihood through performance and who focus entirely on their craft. The directors and designers, plus musicians, do the same. (Bet you didn't know that in the current onstage rock band for "The Who's Tommy" there is a percussionist who has played in orchestra pits on Broadway many, many times, including the hit "Les Miserables".)

I'll blog more later, but for now please come see "The Who's Tommy" for just $25 to see what is happening on State Street, right here in the heart of Delco! No other theatre in the area gets as many visitors—you should come see why. "The Who's Tommy" is directed by Jesse Cline and also features Media's own Broadway actress Ann Crumb.
