Celebrating spring with Super Sunday in downtown Media
Festival-goers take in live entertainment, variety of foods and vendor offerings along State Street
This year’s Spring Super Sunday festivities were originally scheduled to be held midway through the month. However, the weather still wasn’t quite right and Spring Super Sunday was postponed until its rain date of April 22. Despite the extra week’s wait, it was appropriate as the event had a perfect day of warm and sun overhead. With a great turn-out, it looked as though the entire area wanted to enjoy the long-overdue springtime feeling. A number of vendors had items that were ideal for celebrating beautiful weather as well as nature on Earth Day.
One vendor had an unusual find on display; this old-school typewriter which was difficult to imagine using for writing projects. It was the perfect example of how far technology has changed in everyday objects. Those who have an interest in vintage and / or literary-themed gifts would love donning necklaces with old typewriter key pendants.
Besides specialty and custom items, vendors at the festival offered many day-to-day items such as clothes and household needs. Several businesses advertised home upgrade work, including for kitchen floors and landscaping. For kids and collectors, some vendors had toys ranging from Disney to HotWheels. However, the majority of tables displayed various artists’ items: handcrafted jewelry, bath and body, home and outdoor decorations.

Wandering among the many tables of creative artwork could build an appetite for any in attendance. On and around State Street, there are food options for everyone no matter what they crave. The restaurants in town, such as Margaret Kuo’s, Shere-E-Punjab and Stephen’s On State, had vendor tables set up.
Here’s a recommendation: Stephen’s smoked pulled pork made for a delicious sandwich! A food truck called The Pizza Cruiser, with a cool ‘50s Chevy decor reflecting the name, sold small personal pizzas and also offers pizza catering.

Along with taking a bite of their food, stop by Stephen’s on State for live music. During the Spring Super Sunday event, the talented Ben Singleton band with Jesse Loewy played a great set of classic songs. “Sittin’ on the Dock of the Bay” and “Brown-Eyed Girl” were among hits they played for a lively audience.
The downtown area of Media, Pa. is a great spot for festivals and has numerous events throughout the year. Along with this past weekend’s celebration of Spring, there is also an annual Fall event as well as car shows. For those who haven’t been, the shops and dining make it a worthwhile place to visit any day.
