Christ Church Appoints New Director of Children & Youth Ministries

A renewed Christian Education program is another step in the parish's evolving journey of shared faith, mutual support, and outreach.

Christ Episcopal Church, Media, announces the appointment of Amy Shumoski as the Director of Children & Youth Ministries. In this newly created position, she will be responsible for the deployment of curriculum to meet the needs of all levels of Christian education, from cradle to high school graduation.

Amy was raised in a small rural town in central Pennsylvania, and considered her Lutheran church there her second home. She was active in youth education and programming at the church, and went on to earn a degree in Youth Ministry from Eastern University in 2001. Since then she has held administrative, youth group leader, and teaching roles in several Philadelphia area churches.

Amy has been an active member of Christ Church for six years and has steadily taken on more and more responsibilities. She has served as a substitute in the Sunday school classrooms and nursery, as a lector, and a volunteer on the communications committee. Her 11-year-old son Aidan is actively involved in the church’s music ministry and is also an acolyte.

The Christian Formation Committee and the Vestry felt strongly that there was a need for fresh ideas, new leadership, and someone with a background in Christian education to better serve our youth and to help the church grow and engage more young people. Amy says she is excited to step into this role “because young people are the future of the church.” She is confident that she can bring a new perspective that will help to energize children and youth and get them excited about coming to church. She also looks forward to working with parents and other volunteers, empowering them to be leaders and examples of faith for our young people.

As Christ Episcopal Church undergoes its search for a new priest, Amy’s leadership in developing a renewed Christian Education program for our youth is another step in the parish community’s evolving journey of shared faith, mutual support, and outreach. In the meantime, the parish community will continue to “love, serve, and lead” under the leadership of Interim Rector, The Rev. Canon Nancy James Deming, and welcomes all visitors and families.
