For 44 years, the Plantation has provided educational and tourist opportunities for visitors seeking to understand the inner workings of 18th-centrury farm life in Southeastern Pennsylvania. With a specific focus on the time period between1760-1790, the farm has attracted people of all ages with its focus on history, textiles, animal husbandry, farming, and period crafts and skills. More than 8500 school-aged visitors come to the property every year, with an additional 3500 visitors from the general public attending for special events and regular season hours.
“We are thrilled to unveil our new logo to the public,” said Pat Theodore, President of the Board of Directors. “Its reinvention symbolizes the relevance that the past has to the present. We hope the new design will attract first-time visitors to the Colonial Plantation, while at the same time strengthening the relationships we’ve built throughout the community since our founding in 1973.”

Designed by professional freelance artist, Gretchen Sanders, with input from Plantation volunteers and staff members, the logo embodies aspects of 18th century farm life and reflects the Colonial Plantation’s rich heritage. It holds present-day appeal, conveying a welcoming sense to multi-generational families, educators, history lovers, and anyone seeking a unique outdoor experience rich with opportunities to learn about the natural and cultural history of the region.
The new logo was officially and enthusiastically adopted at the September meeting of the Plantation’s Board of Directors, upon recommendation of the Research and Executive Committees. Project oversight was provided by Plantation volunteer Nancy Walls (of Media, PA) and her daughter Amy Berquist (formerly of Springfield, PA),
The Plantation is currently closed for the winter season and will re-open to the public on weekends beginning Saturday, March 25. The historic farm is a 501(c3) educational corporation operating under a lease agreement with the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
