Delco Joining National Drug Take Back Efforts This Weekend

Delaware County is continuing its fight against drug abuse by joining the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day this weekend.

District Attorney Katayoun Copeland and the Delaware County Council recently announced Delaware County’s participation in the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day being held on Saturday, April 28.

A list of Delaware County drop off locations is below.

Take Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications.

Residents are encouraged to drop off their expired or unwanted prescription and over-the-counter medications at one of the various designated drop off locations.

These drugs are a potential source of supply for illegal use and present a risk to public health and safety. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including the home medicine cabinet.

By participating in the Take Back Day, residents can help reduce the supply of prescription drugs available to those who might otherwise try to steal, abuse or sell these drugs.

While Take Back Day raises awareness about the epidemic of prescription drug abuse, County Council and the District Attorney remind residents of the daily access to Secured Medicine Drop Boxes supplied by the Delaware County Heroin Task Force. Residents can dispose of unwanted drugs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at any of the permanent medicine drop boxes located at police stations across Delaware County.

• Saturday, April 28 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. – Upper Darby High School, 601 N. Lansdowne Ave., Drexel Hill
• Saturday, April 28 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Rose Tree Park, 1671 N Providence Rd., Media
• Saturday, April 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. – Aldan Borough Municipal Lot, 1 W. Providence Rd., Aldan
• Sunday, April 29, noon to 3 p.m. – McCausland Garrity Funeral Home, 343 Chester Pike, Glenolden
