Delco Man Tried To Take Trooper's Firearm In Delaware: Police

A Brookhaven man has been charged with several crimes after Delaware State Police said he resisted arrest and tried to take a trooper's gun.

BROOKHAVEN, PA — A Delaware County man has been accused of trying to take a Delaware State Police trooper's firearm during an incident outside a Newark Catholic school Monday.

According to Delaware State Police, Joseph Twisler, 47 of Brookhaven, was charged with numerous crimes - including felony attempting to remove a firearm from possession of a law enforcement officer and felony resisting arrest with force or violence - after an incident Monday afternoon outside Christ the Teacher Catholic School, 2451 Frazer Road in Newark.

Police were called to the school at about 2:32 p.m. for a report of a disorderly and intoxicated person.

There, they found Twisler passed out on a sidewalk, police said.

Twisler started throwing punches at the troopers when he was awoken, police said.

A physical altercation ensued, and police said that's when Twisler tried to grab one of the trooper's firearms from its holster.

Twisler was eventually taken into custody.

Police later learned Twisler was confronting parents at the school before police showed up.

According to authorities, he pushed a parent during one of the confrontations.

No one was hurt in any of the incidents Monday.

Other charges filed against Twisler include offensive touching of a law enforcement officer, menacing, loitering at or around a school, criminal trespass, and disorderly conduct.

Twisler was released after posting $6,500 secured bond, police said.
