Delco Women’s Commission Taking Nominations For 2 Awards

The awards are The Woman of Achievement Award and the Hall of Fame Award. The submission deadline is Thursday, Jan. 25. See details here.

The Delaware County Women’s Commission is seeking nominations for two awards it will present in March and you can nominate outstanding Delco women now through Jan. 25.

According to a release from Delaware County, the Commission is seeking nominations from the community in one of two categories: the Woman of Achievement Award and the Hall of Fame Award.

The Woman of Achievement Award is offered to an extraordinary person whose daily interactions and activities work in a positive way to end discrimination against woman and girls in Delaware County.

The Hall of Fame Award is offered to a woman who has died, but whose actions have continued a legacy that extends beyond her lifetime.

Once nominations are received, candidates will be considered, the nominees announced, and an awards celebration will take place on March 21 at the Springfield Country Club, 400 W. Sproul Road, Springfield, to present the annual Woman of Achievement Award and induct one member into its Hall of Fame.

Below are a few things to note when making a nomination, per the Commission:

  • Include why you feel this individual should be selected, which should include the impact she had on our County. Enclose any supporting materials that will demonstrate how your nominee has had an impact on the ad advancement of the status of Women.
  • Include personal accomplishments, professional accomplishments, community-related activities, awards honors & leadership roles, and any other items of interest.
  • Include the nominees contact information.
  • If selected, you will be asked to help present the award at the DCWC annual Awards Presentation in March.

All nominees must have lived in Delaware County, as well.

Completed nomination forms, which can be found online here, can be faxed to (610) 713-2378 or mailed to Delaware County Women’s Commission, 20 S. 69th St., 3rd Floor, Upper Darby, PA 19082.

Nominations must be submitted on or before Thursday, Jan. 25.

March is Women’s History Month and every year the National Women’s History Project - the leading organization that successfully lobbied Congress for the creation of Women’s History Month - offers a premise in which to base these honors.

This year, the Commission will celebrate Delaware County women who embody the 2018 them of "NEVERTHELESS SHE PERSISTED: Women Who Fight All Forms of Discrimination Against Women."

The Delaware County Women’s Commission was founded on Oct. 15, 1985, by resolution of Delaware County Council. The purpose of the Commission is to evaluate the concerns and needs of women and girls residing in Delaware County and make recommendations to Delaware County Council as to how these concerns and needs can be addressed.
