Democrats Dominate Delaware County Races In 2017 Election
For the first time in more than 30 years, Democrats have secured seats on the Delaware County Council. See countywide race results here.

Two Democrats will be joining the Delaware County Council, making them the first Democrats on the governing body in more than 30 years, following the 2017 election that led to Democrats taking many of the county races.
Once all was said and done in Tuesday's general election, Democrats Brian Zidek and Kevin Madden emerged victors in the county council race.
Incumbent Republican David White fell in the election, along with fellow Republican John J. Perfetti and Libertarian Edward Clifford.

Below are the totals:
- Brian Zidek - 60,657
- Kevin Madden - 61,695
- David White - 58,712
- John J. Perfetti - 58,454
- Edward Clifford - 2,040
Additionally, Delaware County District Attorney Jack Whelan defeated Democrat Kelly Eckel to win the Judge of the Court of Commons Pleas race. The totals are 63,175 votes for Whelan and 61,415 for Eckel.

In another party shift, Republican Sheriff Mary McFall-Hopper lost to Democrat Jerry Sanders in the Sheriff's race with a 61,846 to 58,435 vote count in favor of Sanders.
Democrat Joanne Phillips defeated Republican Robert W. Kane in the controller race. The totals are 63,646 for Phillips and 58,938 for Kane.
Mary Walk, a Democrat, won over Republican Beth Naughton-Beck in the Register of Wills race, with totals of 64,357 for Walk and 57,504 for Naughton-Beck.
