The Academy of International Ballet's Vaganova Ballet Summer Intensive has an established tradition for providing serious students with an immersion experience in the Vaganova method. The Vaganova method is the most common method of teaching ballet in Russia. The summer intensive program offers Intermediate, Advanced and Pre-Professional students a unique learning experience sensitive to the progress of each individual student, under the supervision of AIB's Artistic Director Denis Gronostayskiy, Ballet Mistress Anastasia Babayeva and special guest artists.
Students will experience a program that will alllow them to learn and appreciate the Vaganova method as a personal and individual experience. Class size will be limited. Each student must audition.
Curriculum:
The curriculum of the 2011 AIB Vaganova Ballet Summer Intensive will include both technique classes and lecture courses on subjects critical to the goals of the Vaganova method. AIB's instructional approach and mission is to prepare the motivated dancer for personal growth, self realization and to focus on the goal of performing on the international stage of ballet. Our curriculum for the Vaganova Ballet Summer Intensive will include:
Ballet Technique
Ballet Pointe, Character Dance, Ballet History, Yoga, Meet the Artist, Pilates, Partnering, Men's Technique, Men's Variations, Modern Dance and Nutrition
Qualified dancers in the Summer Intensive 2011 will once again have the opportunity to participate in a final summer performance in early August before an attentive and receptive regional audience in the beautiful 300-seat Meagher Theater at Neumann University offering selections from IBC's repertoire and new choreography developed during the program.
Faculty:
AIB's 2011 Summer Intensive students will experience a level of professional instruction unequalled to any other summer program in the tri-state area. The faculty will consist of the AIB's artistic staff, AIB alumni, and internationally recognized guest instructors. Guest faculty of recent progams have included:
Denis Gronostayskiy, Graduate of the Bolshoi Ballet Academy, Principal Dancer with the Renaissance Ballet Moscow and Artistic Director at AIB.
Anastasia Babayeva, Graduate of the Bolshoi Ballet Academy, Principal Soloist with the Bolshoi Ballet Company and Ballet Mistress at AIB.
Michael Shannon, Graduate of the Bolshoi Academy and former member of the Bolshoi Ballet Company, and Director of the Greenwich now Artistic Director with the Royal Ballet School of Antwerp in Belgium.
Anna Ivanova - Originally with the Doneskt Ballet.
Felicia Walker, University of the Arts.
Alisher Saburov. Graduate of the Bolshoi Ballet Academy, and Principal Dancer with the Moscow Festival Ballet.
Maria Youskevitch, Soloist with the American Ballet Theatre and now faculty member with ABT.
