Rose Tree Elementary School Students Learn from the Pros
Students learn important fire safety information in case of a fire.
Fire Marshall Mancill and firefighters Jordan and Miller talked to students about fire safety, prevention and what to do during a fire emergency.
Firefighter Miller demonstrated how he puts on his gear before entering a burning building. When firefighters enter a building they get down low to the ground where the smoke and heat are less intense. If you are trying to escape a burning building, crawl on the ground where there is less heat and smoke. He explained to students that if a firefighter enters your home, your job is to shout at him so he can find you. Firefighters have a special thermal imaging camera that helps them find people trapped in a burning building.
Also, Fire Marshall Mancill explained that every commercial building in America has exit signs and in the case of a fire, always follow the arrows on the exit sign.

Firefighter Jordan explained that if you are trapped on the upper floor of a building to go to a window and wave your hand or through a stuffed animal out the window so firefighters can reach you with a ladder. Every family should have a fire escape plan and a designated meeting place outside. When there is a fire danger, call 911.
