Former Phillies Broadcaster Chris Wheeler and the Phillie Phanatic Joins Maris Grove to Talk Baseball
Maris Grove residents meet two all-time Phillie favorites

GLEN MILLS, PA— Former broadcaster for the Philadelphia Phillies, Chris Wheeler was behind the microphone again, this time as a special guest speaker to a sold-out crowd at Maris Grove Retirement Community’s 4th “Talkin’ Baseball” event.
Maris Grove’s Talkin’ Baseball brings in former Phillies players and coaches to talk about the current team, discuss Phillies legends and ask questions.
Residents had the opportunity to discuss with Wheeler multiple topics, including the current team and their future. Wheeler expressed optimism for the current Phillies and believes they have some “really good young talent” to set up a future of success.

Residents also asked about his relationship with Hall of Fame broadcaster Harry Kalas and Hall of Fame center-fielder-turned-broadcaster Richie Ashburn. “It was truly an honor to have the opportunity to work with both of those legends,” said Wheeler.
Wheeler also brought a special guest him: the Hall of Fame Phillie Phanatic, who was his normal boisterous self and energized the crowd. The Phanatic even helped serve the ballpark lunch and provided great photo opportunities.

Former Phillies public affairs director of 44 years, Larry Shenk, now a resident at Maris Grove organized the event. Wheeler talked about how Mr. Shenk provided him a chance to be in the position he is in today, saying, “I owe my career to this man.”
“It’s always fun to have a Phillie alumni come to visit,” Mr. Shenk said, “especially at this type of event where we’re also raising money for a great cause.” The Talkin’ Baseball event raised money for the Maris Grove resident care fund, which helps provide financial assistance to residents who have exhausted their resources due to unforeseen circumstances.
