Get Out: Car Show, Revolutionary War Battle, Dining Under the Stars, Dad Vail Regatta

Take advantage of perfect spring temperatures and attend one of the many outdoor events in the Patch area this week. Linvilla's car show and flea market, Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation's Revolutionary War events and the Dad Vail Regatta all provide ample opportunity to enjoy just being outside (and all happen rain or shine). You can even dine al fresco along State Street during Media's Dining Under the Stars event. Or, for those sticking with indoor fun, check out Makin' Music's weekend open house or Color Me Mine's paint techniques class for adults.

Patch's Best Bets for the Week

MAKIN' MUSIC OPEN HOUSE

Where/When:  from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Why Go: Join Makin' Music in the Barn for singing, face painting, crafts and balloons. Be sure to check out their variety of summer classes and camps while you're there. Plus, meet the Rockdale teachers up in the Cottage and enjoy yoga and massage with the folks from Soul Source in the Farmhouse.

Where/When:  from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Flea market opens at 8 a.m.
Why Go: See all types of cars dating from the 1900's through the 70s. More than 250 cars, including a 1913 Ford Model T, a 1938 Ford Woody Wagon, a 1958 Chevy Impala and a 1962 Chevy Corvette, will take over one field of Linvilla’s 300 acres. After you've admired the cars, don't forget to browse the flea market. Bring the kids and enjoy hayrides, train rides, face painting, the playground and lunch at the Linvilla Grill.

Where/When: State Street from 5 to 10 p.m. on Wednesdays.
Why Go: Enjoy al fresco dining and live entertainment as Media kicks off its Dining Under the Stars evenings. State Street will be closed to traffic from Jackson to Orange to provide ample space for outdoor dining, strolling and shopping. Make your dinner reservation or stop in at a participating restaurant.

Where/When:  from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. Battles take place at 1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Why Go: Learn about how a local farm dealt with the turbulent times of 1778 through skirmishes and activities throughout the day. Activities include hearth cooking, woodworking, basket weaving, spinning, chair rushing, 18th century hunting and fishing display, quill pen construction, shoemaking, Light Dragoons (horse unit) and 18th century medical demonstrations. Merchants selling Army goods will be on site and refreshments will be available for purchase.

Where/When:  from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Why Go: Bring a bottle of wine, learn tile painting techniques, socialize, enjoy light refreshments and go home with four one-of-a-kind 8-inch tiles. Must be 18 years or older. Pre-payment with registration is required.
Pricing: $74 per person


DAD VAIL REGATTA 

Where/When: Kelly Drive from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. Don't miss the finals, kicking off at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Why Go: Witness the largest collegiate rowing event in the country along one of the most famous and scenic race courses in rowing. Bring a beach chair, walking shoes and plenty of sunscreen and head to the grand stand by the finish line near the Jack Kelly statue. Also check out Rowers Village for a peek at the competitors and the food court for a great selection of Philly favorites like cheesesteaks, hoagies and refreshing beverages.
