Get Out: Fishing Derby Day, Elvis Tribute, Friday Night Live

Check out these picks for things to do this weekend in the greater Media Patch area.

It’s Thursday, so it’s time to think about the weekend plans. See a concert series that brings music and art together live. Are you lonesome tonight? Then you might want to do dinner and a show featuring the King. Or, if fishing is your thing, get into it hook, line and sinker. Media Patch has a few ideas for fun times this weekend.

 

1.Go Fish

Where/When: ; Sat., March 26 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Why Go: The big pond is fully stocked with hundreds of Rainbow Trout for Fishing Derby Day. The first four tagged fish caught win $25, and the biggest fish wins the $250 grand prize. There will be plenty of bait for sale, and you can either use your own rods, or rent them there. Refreshments will be available. For more details, visit Linvilla’s Web site.

2. All Shook Up

Where/When: ; Fri., March 25; Doors open at 7 p.m., show is at 8:30 p.m.

Why Go: Don’t be cruel, and check out the Town House this weekend. The Legends Dinner and a Show Series features Rick Alviti Elvis Tribute. A buffet dinner and the show is included, and a cash bar is available.

Pricing: $50 per person; Reservations required

 

3. Friday Night Live

Where/When: Community Arts Center in Wallingford; Fri., March 25 from 7 to 10 p.m.

Why Go: This unique concert series marries live music with live art. During each performance, featured artists create visual art that is inspired by the music. The featured musical artist is Dave Manley and His Trio, and the featured visual artists are Kasso, Luv1 and Delve. The event is BOYB, and light refreshments will be served.

4. Art and Craft Show

Where/When: Granite Run Mall; Sat., March 26 and Sun., March 27

Why Go: There will be dozens of vendors on site selling handmade works of art from paintings to sculptures to jewelry. Pick up a piece for your home, or buy a gift for someone.

Price: Event is free

 

5. Babysitter Training

Where/When: Gauntlett Community Center in Marple Newtown; Sat., March 26 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Why Go: This course, offered in conjunction with the American Red Cross, will teach kids, ages 11 to 16, the responsibilities and criteria needed to be a good babysitter. Participants will learn how to respond to an emergency, how to prevent accidents, how to supervise and play with children of different ages, and more. Participants are asked to bring a brown bag lunch to the class.

Price: $80; Registration required
