Hurricane Harvey Fundraiser

Rose Tree Elementary School 5th Grade Students collect for Victims of Hurricane Harvey

Rose Tree Elementary fifth grade students, Sophia Donnelly and Lucy DiGuiseppe wanting to do something to help the victims of hurricane Harvey. They brainstormed ideas of how they could raise money and decided to have a bake sale. They baked rice krispy treats, chocolate chip cookies, chocolate chip brownies and billionaire bars which is a combination of shortbread, caramel, cookie dough and chocolate. Sophia created her own recipe for the chocolate chip cupcakes. They also made coffee from the Media Bean Company and sold it by the cup. They set up a bake sale stand at their younger sibling’s soccer game at Springton Lake Middle School. They made signs and let people know that all of the proceeds were going to help the victims of hurricane Harvey. Many of the people who bought their baked goods said “keep the change” and also came back for seconds and thirds! They raised $227.00 at the bake sale and their parents donated money to make the total donation of $300.00. Sophia and Lucy are glad they could make a difference in the lives of people who have gone through such a tragedy by giving their gift of time, talent and money.
