Field tests of these packages yielded a positive indication for the presence of synthetic cannabinoids and suboxone. One of the packages was sent by Rees to Sanchez, the DA's office said. The other packages were linked to Rees and were sent to various inmates, according to the DA's office.

The county's Narcotics Task Force executed a search warrant at Rees's home Sept. 3, which resulted in authorities seizing about $25,000 in cash, as well as illegal narcotics, including Xanax, Adderall, and drug related paraphernalia. On Sept. 8, Detective Sean Gallagher of the Narcotics Task Force went to the prison and took Sanchez into custody for his role as a co-conspirator to Rees.
