Rose Tree Elementary School Students meet author, Greg Pizzoli

“I should have lunch with you because you educate me and inspire me,” wrote Rose Tree Elementary first grader Samantha Ritchie to visiting author/illustrator Greg Pizzoli. She was one of the twenty winners of this year’s “Lunch With an Author” persuasive essay contest.

Third grader Abigail Montgomery wrote, “I should be one of the students to have lunch with Greg Pizzoli because I want to be an illustrator when I grow up. I have a passion for art and I love to draw.” Second grader Mack Dougherty wrote, “I could teach him how to make animal sounds or I could teach him how to avoid sharks.” Jackson MacNamara, also in second grade, wrote, “I have good manners. For example, I chew with my mouth closed. I can give him book ideas, like how he can make characters in his books funny.”

Mr. Pizzoli shared writing and illustrating tips with students from Kindergarten through fifth grade in his presentations. He read from his many picture books for younger readers, as well as Tricky Vick: The Impossibly True Story of the Man Who Sold the Eiffel Tower, a book for ages 8 and up. Contest winners enjoyed a special lunch in the library and an opportunity to share ideas with a published writer and illustrator.
