Let's Get Together and end Homelessness in Delaware County...
Homelessness, Volunteer Opportunities, Faith Communities, Family, Community Events
Homelessness can happen to anyone. Many of us live paycheck to paycheck and if that check stops because a job is lost, the death of a partner, a serious illness, all of these or a number of other reasons.
It’s a myth that homeless people are all drug addicts, alcoholics and mentally ill. Yes some are but there are people, our neighbor’s right here in Delaware County that find themselves without a home because of circumstances they had no control over. They desperately need a hand up.
Another big myth is that the homeless choose to live that way. No one wants to live that way.

How Can You Get Involved?
Volunteers are the backbone of any non-profit and for us at Family Promise we could not be more grateful for them.
We are looking for a few good board members. Our board members are in charge of the administrative end, including writing grants, planning fundraisers, developing partnerships with the faith communities and the community as well as overseeing the director.
If you are the member of a church or synagogue there are many ways you can help. Do you have a kitchen? You can cook and serve dinner, do homework or other activities with the children once a month. Do you have the room to host three to four families for the night? We provide the cots. The families are dropped off at dinner time and picked up in the morning for school and work. Yes most of our adults are employed. If you don’t have that kind of space you can provide gift cards, blankets, pillows, cleaning supplies. Our board members are available to attend services and speak to your congregation.
If you can’t commit to a board position perhaps you’d like to join one of our committees. Our committee members assist board members with a specific task such as event planning, fundraising or development.
Community Volunteers interact directly with our families. They help with preparing dinner, serve as overnight hosts, play with children and chat with families while they are in the shelter. You do not have to be the member of a congregation to help.
From time to time we need volunteers in our day center to help sort through donations and inventory or just to look in on the families.
If you or someone you know is studying in the human services field we are always happy to provide volunteer interns with hands on experience.
Join members of your community, our board members and volunteers to make a difference by joining Family Promise of Delaware County and Raymour & Flanigan to raise money and awareness for our programs that help families in need receive hot meals, shelter and counseling. Stop by for light refreshments, raffles, and contribute to a great cause. All proceeds along with a donation on behalf of Raymour & Flanigan, will benefit Family Promise of Delaware County. We look forward to meeting you!
There will be a gift donation box at the event for gift cards and holiday gifts for our children, moms and dads.
