Lions Declawed By Marple Newtown

Penncrest defeated 41-0 on the gridiron.

From the opening kick-off to the final whistle, the  were unable to mount neither an effective offense nor defense in their Friday night home loss to the Marple Newtown Tigers. What initially looked like an even match up soon became a rout. The Tigers scored late in the first quarter ending it, 7-0. With just under five minutes remaining in the half, the Tigers caught fire and scored on back-to-bacl possessions, going to the locker room up 21-0.

Early in the third quarter it seemed like the Lions might be headed for a comeback when they mounted a sustained drive downfield with a succession of passes and rushes, which seemed to push Marple Newtown (2-0) off balance. However, that drive ended with a Tigers interception. To cement the game, the Tigers added 13 more points to end the quarter 34-0.

Throughout the second half, Penncrest was plagued by penalties, fumbles and broken plays. Evert time success seemed in their grasp, they would botch the opportunity. Marple Newtown scored seven more points in the fourth quarter ending the game 41-0.
