GLEN MILLS, PA— As the Olympics in Rio were underway, senior Olympians at Maris Grove retirement community had an opportunity to showcase their fitness ability during Maris Grove’s inaugural Senior Olympic Games.
Over 65 residents seized the opportunity to compete and test their fitness limits. The Olympics offered various games including, table tennis, a 1.2 mile marathon race, a balance obstacle course, Wii bowling, a soft ball throwing contest and a bean bag toss.
The most physically demanding event was the Swimming Triathlon. It consisted of swimming 10 lengths in the fitness center’s pool, a half mile run on a treadmill and then capped off with a 1 mile bike course around Maris Grove’s campus.

“Our main goal was to encourage residents to evaluate their fitness levels through the Olympic Games,” said Missy Scheer, fitness coordinator at Maris Grove. “Many residents enjoyed training in advance of the games and we hope they continue to take advantage of the fitness center with a routine that is fun and beneficial to their overall health.”
The Olympics were such a success, the fitness staff anticipates that the Maris Grove Olympics will become a tradition with more residents participating during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
