Maris Grove’s Empty Bowls Raises $2,125 for Kennett Food Cupboard

More than 200 residents and staff participated in the event.

On February 14, more than 200 residents and staff from Maris Grove, an Erickson Living retirement community in Glen Mills, Pennsylvania, participated in its third Empty Bowls event. The fundraiser raised more than $2,125 for the Kennett Food Cupboard.

The Empty Bowls event, which is meant to symbolize the daily struggles of a family with food insecurities, served a basic meal of soup and bread for participants to understand the hardships of these families.

All attendees of the event chose a clay bowl made by residents and staff in the Maris Grove Arts and Crafts room. The bowls act as a reminder that there are people who struggle with food insecurities daily.

"Thank you to our residents and staff for supporting our Empty Bowls event and supporting a worthy cause,” said Community Resources Manager Sally Christy. “Together we can make a difference in our neighbors’ lives through our generosity, kindness, and support."

Each month the Kennett Food Cupboard provides up to seven-day supply of food to more than 1,200 individuals. The organization relies heavily on volunteers and local donations, like those made by Maris Grove residents and staff, to fund its program.
