Maris Grove Veterans Club Honors Those Who Sacrificed All For Our Country
Maris Grove honors fallen veterans on Memorial Day
GLEN MILLS, PA— On Monday, May 30, over 200 residents and family members attended a Memorial Day program hosted by veterans at Maris Grove retirement community to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the United States of America.
American Gold Star Families were honored by the veterans during the ceremony. The Gold Star Families are immediate family members of fallen servicemember who have lost their lives in conflict or in support of certain military operations.
“This year we remember those brave souls who gave their all for our country and our futures,” said John Kephart, president of the Veterans Club at Maris Grove. “We are focusing special attention toward the loved ones left behind, the spouses, the parents, the children and the siblings.”

The guest speaker for the ceremony was Robert Craven, a gold star father and an Air Force Veteran who served during the Vietnam era. Mr. Craven went into detail of how much support he and his family received from the Gold Star organization after the loss of his son, Air Force Captain Scott Craven in 2006.
The Veterans Club also added 29 new bricks to their “Walk of Honor.” The “Walk of Honor” are bricks that line a walkway at Maris Grove with veteran’s names and service history. The walk now has a total of 402 bricks and each brick honors a veteran who is a family member or friend of a resident or employee of Maris Grove.

“Two days a year, Memorial Day and Veterans Day, our nation acknowledges the Veterans of the United States Armed Forces for their bravery, courage, leadership and patriotism.
