Media Student Council Pres. To World Cup: What Patch Wrote About Auston Trusty In 2011

MEDIA, PA — Fifteen years before Auston Trusty made the U.S. Men's National Team's World Cup roster, he was on Media Patch's radar.

In 2011, Media Patch named Trusty a "Whiz Kid," which was a weekly feature highlighting local youth.

Then 12 years old, Trusty was a multi-sport athlete and seventh-grade student council president at Springton Lake Middle School. The national-team prospect also made time to deliver cans of food to churches in Media.

Since the Whiz Kid honor, Trusty has ascended through the soccer ranks. Professionally, he plays for Scottish powerhouse Celtic FC.

Trusty made his senior debut U.S. men's national team in 2023, logging an assist in a 7-1 win over Grenada. Last week, he was named to the World Cup roster.

The FIFA World Cup 2026 begins June 11.

Why he’s awesome: Along with being student council president, Auston plays basketball, football, soccer and baseball and still finds time for other school clubs as well. He delivered cans of food to Pride and Methodist Church in Media through one of those school clubs. He says he’s "really nice" to people and is trying to come up with good ideas for student council. Currently he’s working on ideas for the 7th grade school dances. His teachers, principal and coaches all speak highly of him. He is always respectful and gets along great with the student body. He plays point guard for the school’s basketball team and recently had to step up when half of the team was out sick or injured. He said he had to rebound the ball over the "big guys" since at 5 foot 5 inches Auston considered himself a "smaller guy." But the game was a success and Springton prevailed with Auston leading the team to victory.
