Media-Providence Friends School Celebrates Math and Science Day

The Media-Providence Friends School community celebrated the many connections between math and science during Annual Math & Science Day.

Students, teachers and parents celebrated the many connections between math and science together during Annual Math & Science Day.

The highly-anticipated event highlighted student efforts in math and science classes with a showcase of projects, interactive challenges and thinking games for curious people of all ages in the school’s gym and on the playground.

Among the 40 plus featured activities this year were opportunities to try to trick an xBox Kinect motion control manager wearing a "snuggie"; witness a dry-ice powered bottle rocket and a vacuum-powered Rube Goldberg machine; test senses of touch and taste; participate in a research study to find out what music best supports problem-solving; learn about ancient math, carnivorous plants, rocks and more; play math games and solve math puzzles of all kinds; submit information about your first name for the first grade community name graph; estimate and investigate basketball dribbling abilities; challenge a middle schooler to a game of chess; and of course, everyone visited the “Off Your Bean Machine” booth to see if blindfolded adults or kids had more accurate taste buds when it comes to identifying Jelly Belly jelly bean flavors.
