Middletown Man Dies in One-Vehicle Crash

A 32-year-old Middletown Township man died in a car crash earlier this week.
Jeffrey Scott Whelan was identified as the driver in a one-vehicle crash on Valleybrook Road between Matson and Bodley roads in Chester Heights Borough at about 3:05 a.m. on April 23, according to
The crash occurred as a 1999 Ford Ranger pickup truck was heading eastbound on Valleybrook Road just past Mattson Road and left the right side of the roadway and struck a guard rail, according to State Police.

The truck then struck a tree on the left side of the roadway and overturned on its right side, according to State Police.
Whelan was partially ejected and pinned under the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to State Police.

Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the crash, according to State Police.
According to Whelan's obituary, he was a 1997 Penncrest graduate and leaves behind two sons.
Concordville Ambulance, Chester Heights Fire Co. and the Delaware County Medical Examiner's Office assisted at the scene.
