Mother of Providence Expands their STEM Program
MPRCS adds Science Explorers to their list of STEM Program.

This year Mother of Providence Regional Catholic School (MPRCS) in Wallingford, PA is excited to offer a new program for 1st through 5th grades called ‘Science Explorers’. Students are given an opportunity to explore the world of science using fun, hands-on activities. This has sparked their interest in science. Science Explorers is a hands-on experience that helps students become engaged in the wonders of science. This year the students have created different types of slime, and a series focused on light where they created a working motor and made it work with electricity, made sun catchers where they learned how light was reflected and refracted, and created glow in the dark substances and observed how temperatures affected light.
Maryam, 2nd grade- “My favorite thing was when we made the moving fans because it was fun.
You had to put the wire on the battery to make it work.”
MPRCS also offers a unique program called SeaPerch for Middle School Students. This program
works in collaboration with the Office of Naval Research and is managed by the AUVSI
Foundation through Temple University, SeaPerch is an underwater robotics program in which
students design and build an underwater Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV). The students then
compete in the Greater Philadelphia SeaPerch Challenge. Throughout the SeaPerch project,
students have fun learning about robotics, engineering concepts, problem solving, design skills,
teamwork, tool safety and technical procedures.
