Nurse Educators Pick Up Shifts During Coronavirus: Delco Heroes

UPLAND, PA — When times are tough, heroes emerge. We all know someone who's making a difference right now as we live through unprecedented times. Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these everyday heroes.

This submission comes from Anne Carson, who nominated Crozer Keystone Health System nurse educators as local heroes.

These educators have forgone teaching new nurses to take on shifts amid the coronavirus patient demand.

"They stepped in without hesitation, leaving their normal routine and families," Carson said.

Why do you believe the nominee should be recognized or honored?
This position is usually a M-F daytime position providing education to all staff in the nursing department. In lieu of this unprecedented time, these dedicated nurses were asked to cover all shifts 24/7 providing elbow support to nurses at the bedside of Covid-19 patients. They stepped in without hesitation, leaving their normal routine and families. Wearing protective equipment for 12 hours is uncomfortable and challenging. They are still responsible for the educational needs of the nursing department, given a day off from the bedside for educational work if possible. Kudos to these professionals for stepping out of their comfort zone to a very challenging position serving our community!
