Public Forum on Economic Development Plan for Media
- Date: Tuesday, October 10, 2017
- Time: 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
- Location: Media Fire Company, 2nd Floor Meeting Room, 11 South Jackson Street
On Tuesday, October 10th, the Economic Development Project Team will host a public forum, on behalf of Media Borough, to discuss their initial findings, present early recommendations, and obtain public feedback. Residents, businesses, and all interested parties are welcomed and urged to attend.
The purpose of the project is to develop an Economic Development Strategy and Implementation Plan to maintain and promote the economic health of the borough and provide concrete action steps to follow over the next five to ten years. The Project Team has looked at economic development opportunities and alternatives, with close attention to business attraction and retail as an engine for revitalization. The consultants recently completed a survey to capture input from residents and local consumers about retail preferences, transportation options, and perceptions about downtown. They have also hosted a series of stakeholder meetings and focus groups with representatives of the retail and business community, property owners, public officials and residents.
The plan is being developed by a consulting team selected by the borough earlier this year through a competitive RFP process. The team is comprised of Econsult Solutions, Inc. and JVM Studio of Philadelphia and The Riddle Company, a Washington DC-based retail consulting practice. The consultants bring experience and expertise in downtown development planning, retail marketing and branding and urban planning and design. They have advised public and nonprofit organization (Cities, EDCs, BIDs, and Main Street Organizations) on a variety of downtown development and marketing projects.
