Residents and Grandkids Have a Blast at Grand Camp at Maris Grove

The annual intergenerational event welcomed grandchildren ages 6-12 for a memorable summer experience filled with fun activities.

Residents and their grandchildren came together for two days of fun, laughter, and connection during Grand Camp at Maris Grove, held August 6-7. The annual intergenerational event welcomed grandchildren ages 6-12 for a memorable summer experience filled with activities designed to strengthen family bonds and create lasting memories.

Research suggests that being an involved grandparent can support healthy aging through meaningful connection, social engagement, and mental stimulation. Maris Grove's Grand Camp brought those benefits to life by creating opportunities for grandparents and grandchildren to learn, play, and enjoy new experiences together.

“At Maris Grove, programs like Grand Camp offer residents and their grandchildren opportunities to spend quality time together in a vibrant, engaging setting,” said Community Resources Manager Missy Scheer. "Whether they were singing songs, swimming, playing games, or enjoying the traveling safari experience, everyone was having fun. The energy and enthusiasm throughout the community were contagious."

The festivities included a magic show and treats, followed by fun and games, an interactive traveling safari experience, dinner and a movie, and a pajama party. On the second day, participants enjoyed breakfast in Maris Grove's restaurants, crafting activities, camp songs and a sing-along, and a pool party at the community's aquatics center. Families also had free time to enjoy the community's many amenities, including nine-hole mini golf, bocce ball, disc golf, walking paths, and the scenic pond. At the end of the event, the grandchildren received a parting gift and a commemorative picture.
