Rose Tree Elementary, Springton Lake Soccer Team Honored at RTM School Board Meeting

Rose Tree Principal Karen Daugherty, is acknowledged for the prestigious National Blue Ribbon award, and the Spartans receive certificates for its undefeated season.

The Board of Directors moved swiftly through business, and devoted additional time to honor two of its school’s recent achievements at its regular meeting on Thursday.

Just seven principals were selected for special recognition of their leadership, including Daugherty. She won the Terrel H. Bell Award for her outstanding work in fostering successful teaching and learning.

Daugherty said the award and experience were amazing.

"I felt like what a movie star must feel like. I turned around and there were a million cameras," she said. "It was really an honor."

Also, the 8th grade boys’ soccer team was hailed for its undefeated season. The Spartans celebrate nine wins, no losses, and one tie. The young men, coached by Steve Adams, accepted their awards and posed for photos.

During public comment, Debbie Saylor-Brown, of Upper Providence, commended Media on the held on Nov. 11. She made a suggestion to the board to consider giving the students off on Veterans Day next year so they might attend the parade.

"I enjoyed the parade and think Media did a great job. If you gave the kids off they can experience the powerful message the parade sends, and see the veterans up close and personal," she said.
