Rose Tree Media School District Approves Increase in Pay Rates for Substitute Teachers

Media School District Board of School Directors approved an increase in the daily rate of pay for substitute teachers.

September 22, 2016, Media, PA -- At its regular meeting on September 22, the Rose Tree Media School District Board of School Directors approved an increase in the daily rate of pay for substitute teachers.

The new rates --- effective September 26, 2016 --- are as follows: day-to- day substitute teachers ($110 per day), building substitute teachers ($125 per day) and short-term substitute teachers working in the same assignment for more than five days ($150 per day).

Director of Human Resources Thomas Haupert presented the request to the Board of School Directors during their September 13, 2016, committee meeting. The request came as the District was experiencing difficultly recruiting and retaining substitute teachers.

According to Mr. Haupert, prior to the board-approved increase, the District’s substitute teacher compensation was the lowest in Delaware County. When the increase becomes effective, Rose Tree Media substitute teachers will be the second highest-paid in the county. As a result of this action, the District anticipates that its pool of substitute teacher will improve.

Certified teachers who are interested in substitute positions with the Rose Tree Media School District, should call the Substitute Teacher Service at 1-800-357-7827 to register.
