Springton Lake Spanish Students Score Well

Congratulations to Spanish students from Springton Lake Middle School who attained national recognition for excellent performance on the 2017 National Spanish Examinations.

Students from Springton Lake Middle School earned a total of 3 gold, 8 silver and 11 bronze medals along with 5 honorable mentions. “Attaining a medal or honorable mention for any student on the National Spanish Examinations is very prestigious,” said Kevin Cessna-Buscemi, National Director of the Exams, “because the exams are the largest of their kind in the United States with over 157,000 students participating in 2017.”

Students who earned Gold Medal placement include: Benjamin Chang, Max Colizzo, and Esther Kim. Students who earned Silver Medal placement include: Sarah Ahlgren, Allison Barusevicius, Maggie Crowner, Allison Deaton, TJ Feely, Jennifer Plick, Claire Santangelo, and Ryan Schmidt. Students who earned Bronze Medal placement include: Zachary Allen, Raven Amaro, Lauren Niss, Ashley Plick, Shayna Polsky, Rose Schwartz, Spencer Schwartz, Nicole Westcott, Amanda White, Andrew Wickman, and Amber Wolfe. Students who earned Bronze Medal placement include: John Carnevale, Marly Keeley, and Sarah Poissant. Students who earned Bronze Medal placement in the Bilingual category include: Owen Schnyder and Ricky Cambio.

Students from Springton Lake Middle School have a long history of high achievement on these exams and were taught by Spanish teachers, Jennifer Diaz, Adrienne Kutney, Courtney Tucker, and Marcia Vela.

The National Spanish Examinations are administered each year in grades 6 through 12, and are sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese.
