State Troopers Involved In Delco Crash After Car Chase: Report​

About 300 bags of heroin were found in the fleeing vehicle after the crash.

Two Pennsylvania State Troopers were injured in a crash after a vehicle chase early Thursday morning that led to charges for a two Maryland men.

Eric Anthony Pyott, 42, of Northeast, Maryland, was charged with felony manufacture, delivery, or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver a controlled substance; felony altering the ID number of a firearm; recklessly endangering another person; fleeing police; providing false identification to police; criminal mischief; and six summary traffic offenses, court records show.

Brian Thomas Shaffer, 36, also of Northeast, Maryland, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, court records show.

According to 6ABC, Pyott is in the Intensive Care Unit at Crozer-Chester Medical Center as a result of the crash. Shaffer is in the Delaware County Jail in lieu of $75,000 bail court records show.

The crash occurred early Thursday morning in Chester after state troopers stopped a suspicious Ford Explorer SUV on Interstate 95 near the Broad Street exit because it was swerving, according to ABC.

When police were approaching the SUV, it took off, starting a chase on I-95 that exceeded speeds of 100 miles per hour.

During the chase, one trooper attempted to use a maneuver to stop the fleeing vehicle which resulted in a crash.

Only one trooper was taken to a hospital immediately after the crash and later a trooper who arrived separately as back-up also went to the hospital.

Both were treated for minor injuries and released by 6:30 a.m., according to ABC.

After the crash, police found about 300 baggies of heroin inside and outside the SUV, ABC reports.

Pyott is scheduled to appear before a Delaware county Judge on March 18 for his preliminary hearing, while Shaffer is still being treated at Crozer, according to ABC.
