Support Delco's Seniors With Cards, Letters, Signs

Delaware County is inviting the community to create cards, letters and artwork signs for staff and residents at long term-care facilities.

DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — Citizens of Delaware County are invited to show love and support for residents of the county's long-term care facilities, as well as staffers.

The Delaware County Council is asking the public to create cards, letters and signs that will be delivered to staff and residents at long-term care facilities across the county.

"Given their congregate nature and resident population served, (older adults often with underlying chronic medical conditions), our long-term care facilities and personal care homes are at the highest risk of being affected by COVID-19," the county said in an announcement.

As of May 11, 1,367 residents of long term care facilities and personal care homes have been diagnosed with coronavirus. Additionally, 310 residents of those facilities have died from the virus.

"COVID-19 has greatly impacted both residents and staff at long-term care facilities," said Delaware County Council Chairman Brian Zidek. "Both the staff and residents are dealing with a highly contagious virus. Staff are working in a stressful environment and residents aren’t able to see their loved ones at a time when they need interaction and support from family and friends the most. We know how challenging this is and we want them to know that the County supports them."

Delaware County is inviting the community to create cards, letters and artwork signs for staff and
residents at long term-care facilities. The county will collect the items and distribute them to the dozens of long-term care facilities and personal care homes across the county.

"During this stressful time, a hand-written card or a sign with artwork is one way we can show our support and gratitude to our health care heroes who are on the front lines caring for our most vulnerable population and for the residents who may be fearful and lonely,” said Zidek.

The community can mail cards, letters and signs to IAE Foundation, 2545 Market Street, Aston, PA 19014

Items can also be dropped to that location Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
