Visit to Rose Tree Elementary School by Lieutenant Commander Luft

On Friday 11/10 in honor of Veteran’s Day Lieutenant Commander Thomas Luft spoke to the students at Rose Tree Elementary about the meaning of Veteran’s Day which is to show our pride for Veteran’s and honor those that we lost. He talked about how veterans give back to their community by entering service fields such as nursing or becoming a police officer. He talked to the students about how they could give back to their community by helping neighbors and doing volunteer work for those who are less fortunate. Lieutenant Commander Luft is a 2002 Naval Academy Graduate. He received his pilot’s wings in 2004 and was on active duty in the United States Navy for nearly 11 years. During those years, Lieutenant Commander Luft conducted hundreds of flights around the world, including combat missions over Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, Yemen and the Philippines and continues to serve as part of the selected reserve where he is stationed at the Navy Air Station in Jacksonville, FL. The Selected Reserve is a pool of highly trained service men and woman who are ready to step in whenever and wherever needed. During his visit to Rose Tree Elementary, Lieutenant Commander Luft allowed students to try on various Naval uniform jackets and a flight helmet and they participated in routine workout activities that are typical for training service men and women including sit ups and push ups.

Lieutenant Commander Luft continues to serve his community by being a pilot for American Airlines and flies the Airbus 320. He lives in Media with his wife Jen and their two boys who attend Rose Tree Elementary. The students at Rose Tree Elementary school want to say thank you to all the Veterans who have fulfilled their patriotic duty to maintain the freedoms of our country.
