Whiz Kid: Gabe Chuckran
This Penncrest sophomore is making his mark on the ice rink and the baseball field.

Each week, Media Patch will feature individual kids, teens, youth groups, and sports teams that wow us with their accomplishments in the new feature called Whiz Kid. We also want to hear suggestions on who you'd like to see featured as a Whiz Kid, so send some nominations our way. This week's Whiz Kid is Gabe Chuckran, a Penncrest varsity ice hockey player and a baseball player.

Accomplishments: Chuckran has made the honor roll since his middle school days and frankly has too many sport's trophies to count, according to his father Russ Chuckran.
Why he’s awesome: Chuckran is a sophomore at Penncrest and his passion is ice hockey and baseball. He is on the varsity ice hockey team at Penncrest and is also on the Midget AAA Little Flyers Ice Hockey Club. His dream is to go to a Division 1 university and continue his hockey career, according to Russ Chuckran.
Chuckran, who has played ice hockey since he was 3 years old, co-captains his Little Flyers Squad and they are currently fighting for a playoff berth in March. The Penncrest team is also currently in the playoffs. (Check back later for a recap on the most recent playoff game.)
When he's not on the ice rink, Chuckran is playing baseball for Penncrest. He was the starting catcher for the freshman team last year. He has four brothers and the younger ones love to talk hockey with their big brother, Russ Chuckran said.
"There’s a lot to say about his character as a loyal friend, dependable teammate, loving big brother and respectful son. Yes, I’m extremely proud of him...he’s developed into a great young man," Russ Chuckran said.
Editor's note: Know a great kid who made Eagle Scout or did your local hockey team take the championship? They may be our next Patch Whiz Kid honoree. We want to hear about these amazing children and teens and select one each week as the Patch Whiz Kid.
