Fall is officially here in Moon, and there's no shortage of ways to make the most of it. From festivals and farmers markets to pumpkin patches, live music and other seasonal fun, October brings plenty of reasons to get out and enjoy what's happening close to home.
Here are some events and activities happening in and around Moon this October.

Where: UPMC Events Center, 6001 University Blvd., Moon Township, PA
Get the costumes ready for the Moon Halloween Spooktacular, a free Halloween celebration hosted by Moon Parks and Recreation. Kids can trick-or-treat their way through the UPMC Events Center, where local businesses and community organizations will set up tables and hand out candy and goodies. The event runs from 5 to 8 p.m. and is free to attend.
When: Saturdays and Sundays, Oct. 3–25, 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
Where: Janoski's Farm & Greenhouse, 1714 Route 30, Clinton, PA
Celebrate fall at a local farm during Pumpkinland Weekends, held every Saturday and Sunday through Oct. 25 at Janoski's Farm & Greenhouse. Admission includes a corn maze, haunted barn, petting zoo, corn pit, straw maze, playgrounds and other activities, with an optional scenic hayride and $5 pony rides for children. Admission is $13 per person and free for children under 2, while pumpkins are sold separately by the pound; food and craft vendors will also be on-site.

Where: Squirrel Hill, Carrick and Northside neighborhoods, Pittsburgh, PA
If you're headed into the city, the Pittsburgh Farmers Markets offer three opportunities each week to shop for fresh, locally grown and produced foods. The Squirrel Hill market runs Sundays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Carrick runs Wednesdays from 3 to 7 p.m. through Oct. 28 and Northside runs Fridays from 3 to 7 p.m. throughout October and into November. All three markets accept debit, credit and SNAP benefits through Just Harvest's Fresh Access program, and shoppers using SNAP can receive Food Bucks to spend on fresh produce.
When: Select dates through Sunday, Nov. 1; Fridays, 6–11 p.m.; Saturdays, noon–11 p.m.; Sundays, noon–10 p.m.
Where: Kennywood, 4800 Kennywood Blvd., West Mifflin, PA
A Pittsburgh-area favorite for over 125 years, Kennywood's Phantom Fall Fest combines family-friendly fall fun during the day with scarier Halloween experiences after dark. The park offers more than 30 rides and attractions, seasonal entertainment and food, plus seven haunted attractions and four scare zones; Saturdays and Sundays also feature daytime trick-or-treating through Nov. 1. Tickets are required, and guests ages 17 and younger must be accompanied by an adult age 21 or older to enter during Phantom Fall Fest.
When: Daily, Friday, Oct. 2–Sunday, Nov. 1, 6:30–11 p.m. Oct. 2–9 and 6–11 p.m. beginning Oct. 10
Where: Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium, 7370 Baker St., Pittsburgh, PA
Thousands of hand-carved pumpkins light up the Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium during the Jack O'Lantern Extravaganza, a seasonal nighttime walk-through experience. More than 3,500 jack-o'-lanterns create themed displays inspired by zoo animals, famous Pittsburghers, cryptids, movies and music, culminating in a 650-foot synchronized light-and-sound display called the Living Wall. Timed tickets are required, with adult admission starting at $24 and tickets for children ages 2–13 starting at $18; children under 2 are free.
