Bites Near Us: Segneri's Boasts Rich Sauce, Italian Atmosphere

Patch tries out the authentic Italian fare at longtime Coraopolis staple.

Coraopolis staple  serves up its hearty Italian dishes in a warm, casual atmosphere.

The quaint eatery has been in business since 1954 and employs only one cook, the owner himself, Sam Segneri. His parents opened the restaurant decades ago, but not much has changed, including the menu. The restaurant has offered the same weekly specials since it opened. On Mondays, the special is roast beef. On Wednesdays, it's pasta fagioli.

Black-and-white photographs line the restaurant's walls. And as a customer, the place makes you feel like you're part of an extended Italian family: It's relaxed, loud and people at neighboring tables strike up conversations with one another. The friendly staff knows regulars on a first-name basis. And the homemade tomato pasta sauce rivals your Italian grandmother's.
