Crescent Commissioners Approve 2012 Budget

The tax rate in the township remains at 6.5 mills.

Officials in Crescent last night approved the township's final 2012 budget.

The township's board of commissioners approved the measure unanimously, although board President Bill Cook remarked that balancing this year's budget was a difficult process.

"In the eight years that I've been on the board, I've never seen a budget that was so tricky to balance," he said.

Cook said the county's delay in reassessing properties posed a challenge for the township. Crescent's tax rate remains at 6.5 mills under the budget.

Commissioners also approved a tax reassessment note (TAN) loan bid from PNC Bank for the township in the amount of $350,000.

Cook said the completion of certain projects would depend on the 2012 budget. The board of commissioners approved a motion to allow Lennon, Smith, Souleret Engineering Inc. to begin working on the 2012 road program.

In addition to the pending road project, the board also approved the partial payment to companies for the Parkwood Pointe Storm improvements and the 2011 Road Program.

"We have remained on track with the budget for 2011 and plan to do so in 2012, despite some challenges ahead," finance Commissioner Karen Patton said.
