Moon Area School District Plans Community Input Session

The public is encouraged to attend an upcoming Moon Area School Board facilities meeting focusing on a study of the district's five elementary schools. 

The community input session begins at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23 in the high school cafeteria. 

Led by Rob Pillar of Stantec Architecture, the session will include a brief overview and recap presentation summarizing the options regarding the future of the district's elementary program and underutilized district spaces.

Participants also will be given the opportunity to provide feedback.  Those who attend will be split into small groups and asked a series of questions by a facilitator. Data collected will be considered in the district's decision-making process on possible changes at any of the elementary schools.

The school board hired Shelby Stewman, professor of sociology and demography at Carnegie Mellon University, to perform an initial analysis of demographics and economic processes impacting student enrollments.

The Stewman Demographics study -- posted on the district's website -- includes a 10-year projection of students by grade and level, and 10-year projections of student enrollment for the five elementary schools.

The start time for the school board work session scheduled for Monday, Sept. 23 has been revised to begin at 6:30 p.m. in the high school board room.
