Moon Police Arrest Former Pittsburgh Police Officer in Prostitution Sting

arrested a former Pittsburgh Police Officer of the Year and his girlfriend Wednesday night after an undercover prostitution sting at a local hotel. 

Former city narcotics Det. Talib Kevin Ghafoor, 55, of Pittsburgh, was charged with three counts of felony prostitution and criminal conspiracy as well as one count of misdemeanor possessing instruments of crime. Ghafoor won departmental honors during his career with the city department before retiring in 2008 amid questions about his testimony in a homicide case.

Moon Police said he drove his fiancee, Sabina Earlene Sailer, to the  hotel in Moon to meet with an undercover detective for sex. 

Sailer, 43, of Florida, was charged with three counts of felony prostitution and criminal conspiracy and one count of misdemeanor prostitution at 6:30 p.m. at the hotel on Cherrington Parkway.

Police said Sailer, who has an extensive history of prostitution arrests, was also found with drug paraphernalia, including syringes and spoons. 

Detectives in the Moon department viewed an advertisement for adult services on Pittsburgh.Backpage.com, a website for local classified ads. Detectives said they contacted Sailer, who identified herself as "Sally," and arranged to meet at the hotel Wednesday evening. Sailer was arrested after agreeing to have sex with the undercover detective in exchange for money. 

Police said they found Ghafoor unarmed in his vehicle in the hotel parking lot. He remains lodged at the Allegheny County Jail in lieu of $15,000 bail. 

Ghafoor resigned from the Pittsburgh Police Department in 2008 after more than 20 years with the department. Ghafoor resigned while being investigated for giving contradictory testimony in a homicide investigation, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
