Moon Supervisors Approve Payment Agreement from Robert Morris
The university is scheduled to make its first payment on Sept. 30.
Robert Morris University is scheduled to pay Moon Township $100,000 later this month, the first of three payments toward the equivalent of 10 years worth of taxes, or $230,000.
According to the Times, Moon Supervisors voted Wednesday to approve a plan for Robert Morris to make payments of $100,000 on Sept. 30, another $100,000 in 2014 and $30,000 in 2015.
Robert Morris officials offered the contribution in July during a zoning and conditional use hearing for the former hotel property, now Yorktown Hall dormitory. The university purchased the 10-story hotel for $10 million in 2011.Because the university is tax exempt, Robert Morris volunteered to give Moon a $230,000 contribution to make up for lost tax revenue.

Both sides came to an agreement the funds will be used for traffic upgrades at the University Boulevard and Campus Drive intersection. Robert Morris will also pay for a traffic study at the university’s main entrance.
As part of a previous agreement, the university has also agreed to pay Moon Area School District $1 million over 10 years.
