Moon Woman Charged with Defrauding Senior Citizen

Moon Police have charged a township woman with defrauding a woman out of more than $1,400. 

Jeanette Nolte, 44, is accused of accessing the 63-year-old woman's bank account to obtain a debit card, using it to make fraudulent purchases at Moon and Coraopolis-area businesses. 

Police in a complaint said Nolte befriended the victim, a woman in poor health who has suffered multiple strokes and is often forgetful.

Nolte offered to help the victim with day-to-day chores. While assisting the woman, Nolte obtained her bank account information, police allege. 

She is accused of making nearly 40 fraudulent transactions between April and July, spending $1,402.31 and overdrawing the victim's bank account.

Nolte used a debit card obtained through the woman's bank account to make purchases at Giant Eagle, Coraopolis Cash Market and Uni-Mart, among other businesses, police said. 

The victim became aware of the theft in July when she received a bank notice for an overdraft fee in the amount of $444, police said. 

Nolte was charged with access device fraud and theft by deception in October. She was arraigned on the charges Nov. 2 and faces a preliminary hearing Dec. 4 in Coraopolis District Court. 

Nolte told police that the victim approved of the purchases.
