Murphy Honors Moon Township WWII Veteran in Special Ceremony

Reid Feather served in the Navy and earned a WWII Victory Medal.

U.S. Rep. TimΒ MurphyΒ presented a local World War II veteran Monday with service medals.

Reid A. Feather, 87, of MoonΒ served the U.S. NavyΒ from Nov. 22, 1943 to April 14, 1946.Β 

FeatherΒ was 18 when he entered the military. HeΒ patrolled for German subs along the Atlantic seaboard and briefly served in the European Theater at the end of the conflict.Β

He was joined byΒ his family and friends at theΒ ceremony inΒ the Moon Township Administrative building.Β 

"I appreciate it very much,"Β Feather said. "I do appreciate the fact that it's possible. I think it's a great idea I was able to get them."

MurphyΒ presented Feather with the following commendations: American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and Honorable Discharge Lapel Pin.Β 

β€œI am honored to present Mr. Feather with the medals he earned serving our country in the Second World War,” Murphy said. β€œThese overdue commendations reflect his great sacrifices in the name of a worthy cause and our gratitude for all veterans’ steadfast commitment to that cause.”

Murphy's office worked with Feather’s daughter, Beth, to help secure the service medals for her father.

Beth Feather said she was excited to seeΒ her father finallyΒ receive the commendations, especially because heΒ hadn't in the past.Β Β 

"I was surprised to learn the congressman wanted to present them,"she added.Β
