No Negotiations Scheduled For Moon Schools, Teachers Union

Union official: 'No current plans to strike.'

Officials with the and the teachers union have halted negotiations since last week's clash over a proposed new contract for teachers. 

Butch Santicola, spokesman for the Moon Area Education Association, said there has been "no discussion" between the district and teachers union since the Moon Area School Board rejected an for teachers last week.  No future negotiations have been scheduled.

He also said the union has no current plans to strike.

Jack Cambest, solicitor for the , could not be reached for comment. 

"The possibility is out there but there are no plans [to strike] at this time," Santicola said. "I know the rumor mill is out there, but there aren't plans to strike right now. Our number one concentration is getting a contract."

Nearly 300 teachers, school nurses and counselors in the district have been working under terms of a contract that expired in June. Last week, both parties voted on a contract proposed by arbitrator Mark Winters. Teachers approved the contract while the school board rejected it. Teachers took part in a 13-day strike in November as a result of the dispute.
